12 Of The Best Christmas Songs That Will Get You Into The Holiday Spirit

'Tis the season to be jolly, indeed!
22 December 2022

Yuletide cheer is in order but us, Singaporeans, are often working till the very last minute before Christmas day, which makes it real hard for us to get into the spirit of things, singing and prancing all December long.

No fret, while there are a ton of Christmas-themed songs, we’ve curated a specific list of 12 Christmas songs – a mix of classic hits and modern bops – that should be played on repeat from now till the 25th.

All I want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey

Although she failed to trademark the title of “Queen of Christmas”, we will grant it to her unofficially because of this banger, which has stood the test of time for almost 30 years. Everyone knows the lyrics and we can’t help but belt it out (horribly, but still) as it triggers the holiday spirit like nothing else.

Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande

Ariana is a songstress that hardly ever misses the mark and this tune from 2014 is still a goodie. It’s quintessential pop mixed with a little R&B with undertones of a love song that she always nails effortlessly.

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas by Michael Bublé

Is Christmas even what it is without Michael Bublé? The answer: no. His smooth, jazzy voice will move even the most cynical of people during this holiday season.

Glittery by Kacey Musgraves feat. Troye Sivan

This multi-Grammy winner knows how to put out a fantastic country album but her 2019 Christmas album is highly underrated with a mix of originals and classics that feature other talented singers to really bring it to life. Our favourite has to be her collaboration with Sivan whose buttery vocals turn the song up to a hundred.

Cozy Little Christmas by Katy Perry

Trust Katy to make a powerful anthem-like Christmas jingle. Most Christmas songs tend to long for the return or attention from a partner but this one exudes confidence and uncompromising love – true gifts that everyone enjoys.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside by Frank Sinatra and Dorothy Kirsten

An oldie that deserves to be on everyone’s playlist. This is the perfect song to duet with your partner this holiday, be it at a party or a private night at home with a glass of champagne and charcuterie.

Mistletoe by Justin Bieber

Mr Bieber did not deserve all that flack for his Christmas album from way back in 2011. His angelic voice at that time really did make the tunes so much more joyous, hopeful and optimistic, which is definitely welcomed during this time of year.

Last Christmas by Wham!

There are no words left to say if you hate this song because it’s almost impossible. The iconic pop duo has gifted us with many bops over the years but nothing hits quite like this song that has seen countless covers through the decades.

I’ll Be Home For Christmas by Camila Cabello

Camila’s raspy, sultry voice shines in this track that is imbued with latin influences, which is very much like her as a Cuban artiste. While the lyrics are not mind bogglingly different, the melodies and instruments are refreshing to the ears.

Frosty The Snowman by Ella Fitzgerald

He is a fairytale, they say! Who could ever press “next” when this song comes on? Ella Fitzgerald’s incredible voice brings in so much life that it might spur you to book a ticket to a snowy land to build your own snowman.

Man With The Bag by Jessie J

If you’re looking for the perfect present opening song to set the mood on Christmas morning, look no further! This upbeat jingle by Jessie J will literally have you gleaming with joy as you rip the wrapping paper of the gifts under the tree.

Merry Christmas by Ed Sheeran and Elton John

Magic is born when two musical legends come together to collaborate on a song, especially if it is centred around the most wonderful time of the year. The music video is even more chaotic, in all the best ways – definitely worth playing on the TV to incite a few laughs.
