Now that the Met Gala 2023 has come and gone, we armchair fashion critics have had time to properly digest and dissect the fashion that we saw on the steps of the Met. This year’s theme for the ball was a celebration of the legendary fashion designer, with attendees being asked to dress “in honour of Karl.”
Some guests like Cardi B and Sora Choi came in ensembles by other designers that referenced Karl’s work at Chanel, while others like Gisele Bündchen and Nicole Kidman came in archival pieces that they’ve worn in the past. A handful of celebrities, mainly the men, came in outfits that channelled Lagerfeld’s personal style: a crisp black suit, fingerless gloves, and a snazzy tie with some bling attached to it.
Without further ado, here are our favourite looks from the red carpet of the Met Gala 2023.
Dua’s gown was from the Chanel Haute Couture Fall 1992 collection, originally worn by one of Lagerfeld’s muses, Claudia Schiffer.
Gisele’s outfit was designed for the Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2007 collection, and was originally modelled by the supermodel herself for a Harper’s Bazaar Korea photoshoot back in 2007. The shoot was shot by Lagerfeld, too.
Doja Cat came as Lagerfeld's feline heir, Choupette.
